Wrap up the Season

The Historic Downtown Promotions Committee announces their “Wrap up the Season” shop local campaign which will take place on Thursday, December 20th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participating retailers, restaurants and cafés, and bars will be staying open after hours for last minute shoppers to get their holiday gifts! Do you need a place to get your gifts wrapped too? Students from Henry A. Coffeen School will be raising funds to go to Yellowstone National Park next year.  They will be wrapping gifts at the previous location of Cottonwood Kitchen, 129 N. Main Street. A big thank you to the 3rd Thursday Street Festival for sponsoring this shop local campaign. Hunting for Bucks Week 4 & Grand Prize Winners!

Congratulations to the Week 4 winners of the October Hunting for Bucks shop local campaign! Congratulations to Paige Pozos, who is the grand prize winner of $300 in Chamber Bucks!  Paige filled out her winning slip while she was shopping at Rocky Mountain Discount Sports.  This week’s $25 winners are: Many Williamson who filled out her winning ticket at Sheridan Commercial; Virginia Coleman was shopping at Ye Olde Book Knook; April Bretzman was enjoying a treat at Java Moon; Sandra Olson was shopping at Legacy Diamond & Gems; and our final weekly winner was at Brians Boots.  Thank you to all local shoppers who participated and especially to Mayor Roger Miller for sponsoring this shop local campaign!

Preserving the Character of Your Community: Historic Preservation

The Downtown Sheridan Association in partnership with the Alliance for Historic Wyoming, is offering a free workshop entitled “Preserving the Character of Your Community: Historic Preservation."  This workshop will be in Sheridan on November 8th at the DSA Office located at 121 S. Main Street. The workshop will highlight the historic qualities of downtown Sheridan and provide information about how these qualities can be preserved and enhanced. The workshop is free and open to the public with a choice of either a morning 9-11:30 am or a 1- 3:30 pm afternoon session. The morning workshop will be tailored for builders, building/business owners and architects.  AIA CES are available to architects attending the workshop($50 processing fee)  Topics to be covered include the basics of historic preservation and why old places matter: Sheridan’s historic architectural legacy; and how to preserve historic character when rehabbing older buildings, including instructions on complying with the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for the Treatment of Historic Buildings.” The afternoon session will be tailored to City and County officials; as well as, staff members and interested community members.  This session will focus on more general historic preservation issues such as recognition and designation programs and increasing public interest in and support for historic preservation.  All participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Downtown Sheridan Association and the Alliance for Historic Wyoming.  Presenters for the workshop are Mary Humstone and Lesley Gilmore.  Ms. Humstone is very familiar with Sheridan as she has completed several National Register [...]
