SPOTLIGHT | BISON UNION COFFEE COMPANY
Opening in June 2019, Bison Union Coffee Company took off like a shot with visitors and locals falling in love with the new coffee haunt on the block. Walking into Bison Union Coffee Company is a whole vibe. From the rustic décor and eclectic sticker collection to the Bison Union branded shirts and the large selection of coffee available for purchase. Sheryl Hodgson, general manager for Bison Union, spoke about how the coffee is produced at the shop. “All of the coffee beans are roasted by Bison Union right on location. People like to come to the coffee shop because oftentimes we are roasting during open hours and people like to come here to be part of the process and to experience it”, she said. Sheryl is a spitfire of a lady with a kind heart and she employs the same quick-witted personalities to work at the coffee shop. “Bison Union has customers come in every day just to chat and get a little sass from the employees. We have some sassy personalities in here and our customers love that about us!” Sheryl said. When talking about the shop, Sheryl said “90% of our staff are ‘Cross Fitters’, we cross-promote with Cloud Peak CrossFit located around the corner and we support each other and we’ve done sponsorships together.” Sheryl said that Bison Union recently had an issue with the elevator so she asked their Cloud Peak friends to help carry bags of beans up the stairs for coffee bean roasting [...]
SPOTLIGHT | THE MINT BAR
What can we say about The Mint Bar that you haven’t already heard? This year will conclude The Mint Bar’s 116th year on Main Street in downtown Sheridan and what a legacy it has! The most recent owners, Monty and Wes Buckmaster owned the Mint Bar for 32 years and they helped keep the bar as true to history as when they bought it. Ryan and Stephanie Wagner recently purchased the historic establishment in 2022. After talking with Kat Deeds, the general manager at the Mint Bar, there are a few fun things to share with you all that you may not know about the historic icon! Did you know that the brands burned into the wood beams were created by a man named Tuffy who was paid in whiskey to create the designs? The oldest photo hanging in the bar is from 1908 and is located above the elk on the wall. Speaking of photos, the photographs on the wall will never change, they are grandfathered into the purchase agreement of the bar. Kat loves the stories of the bar, the people, and the memories. She loves to chat with visitors about the history of the bar when asked and she enjoys sharing her knowledge. Neat fact: The famous neon has been lit since the 50s and has been voted one of the top neon signs in the country! Not only has The Mint Bar been the location for numerous famous photoshoots (Boot Barn’s most recent catalog for one) [...]
