On March 2nd, 1998, Morris Music Store & Studio opened its doors, marking a new era for music lovers in the Sheridan area. Shelly Morris, the heart and soul behind this venture, grew up in Worland and pursued her goal in becoming a music teacher. Shelly taught for five years in rural towns in South Dakota and Montana, including an unforgettable experience in Kadoka, SD, where she taught K-12 music and traveled to one-room schoolhouses, and led a marching band of 70 kids in Colorado. She came to the realization that teaching wasn’t her desired path, shifting her focus towards a music store and teaching private lessons.
Employment at Haggerty’s Musicworks in Gillette spurred Shelly’s vision for a music store in Sheridan. During her travels across the state, she discerned Sheridan’s absence of a music store, a void she was determined to fill. Armed with meticulous planning, a year of comprehensive research, and compelling presentations, she successfully convinced the bank that Sheridan needed Morris Music. Today, Morris Music offers a wide range of instruments, accessories, expert repairs, special orders, and rent-to-own options for strings and band instruments.
