All of us have seen the sculptures around town, but do you know where they came from?

In 2001, the Mayor, Jim Wilson, formed a public arts committee with a specific mission to promote and select works of art for Grinnell Plaza and other areas of the City.

After City Council approval, the Sheridan Public Arts Committee (SPAC) received proposals from artists nationwide. SPAC started with eight sculptures and now there are around 150 sculptures with 120 of those in the downtown area!

In addition to funding from the City of Sheridan’s 1% optional sales tax, SPAC continuously seeks funding from individuals or organizations to fund additional pieces. Over $750,000 have been donated from private and public sources over the years!

The arts play an important role in creating that special sense of place within our Historic Downtown Sheridan. A big thank you to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee for everything you do for our downtown and community!
