This weekend is packed with awesome events downtown and in the surrounding Sheridan area. Remember to stop into your favorite stores and restaurants while you make your way to enjoy the events. Join the fun at the 5th Annual Fall Classic Cornhole Shootout at Black Tooth Brewing - Sheridan! The fun starts at 10:30 AM on Saturday. Join the Sheridan County Library System to discuss "Bullsh*it with Cream on It, a Leadership Memoir" with author Linda Robertson this Saturday at 10 AM. Explore the vanishing Wyoming Sheep ranching life of the 1950s while pondering parenting influences on young children to develop into leaders for the complexity of tomorrow's world. The Mint Bar is hosting Bluegrass at the Bighorns on Saturday, September 16th at 8 PM. $12 at the Door with $2 of each ticket going to the Dog & Cat Shelter, Inc.! Pete's Za will be on-site serving up some delicious slices! The special mentions this week goes to Puzzle's Game & Hobby hosting their Warhammer Age of Sigmar Path to Glory Escalation game on Sunday at 4 PM. Also featured is Just A Card Shop hosting the first of two draft events for Wilds of Eldraine! Come help them celebrate 1 year in business... and have some fun!
SPOTLIGHT | BIGHORN DESIGN STUDIO & SURF WYOMING
Bighorn Design Studio has been in downtown Sheridan since the late 80s and has grown exponentially in services and recognition. Bighorn Design offers screen printing, embroidery, e-commerce fulfillment, and design. Most everything they do is done in-house, right here in downtown Sheridan and they offer their services for local small businesses and remote clients as well. In speaking with Mary Jane Fieldgrove, the general manager of Bighorn Design Studio for the last 16 years, there is a feel for the confidence and support that she and the company offer to their customers. Mary Jane stated that they have over 30 e-commerce stores that they do fulfillment for and ship products all over the United States and Canada. All the online fulfillments are managed from the upstairs portion of the downtown building and the products are made by creators at Bighorn Design Studio. That means no middleman and you get great customer service from the people working on the product. In addition to working with local and remote clients, Bighorn Design produces and manages the inventory for their satellite retail store, Surf Wyoming located between Bighorn Design Studio and Bison Union Coffee Company. Surf Wyoming was founded in 1999 and is Wyoming’s first full-fledged lifestyle brand offering souvenir gear and all the latest trends in tees and caps. SPOTLIGHT | RIDDLE’S JEWELRY
Riddles has been on Main Street in downtown Sheridan for nearly a decade and after speaking with assistant manager, Sarah Coffin, there is a lot to learn about the business. Sarah pointed out that Riddle’s Jewelry is family-owned and operated in 62 locations. In addition, the goldsmiths are hand-trained by the company and every single store has their own goldsmith on site. “President/CEO Brett Riddle himself will stop and check in on the Sheridan location. It’s a very personal feel. Most of the Riddle family actively works for the company.” Sarah stated. Sarah talked about the quality of the jewelry Riddle’s carries, she personally loves Canadian diamonds, they are the only rocks mined in North America. She spoke about the procuring process and that “The land is surveyed before mining and after mining the land is returned to the state it was in prior to breaking ground to ensure environmental sustainability.” Sarah noted that they sell YOGO sapphires where they have a contract with the YOGO mine. In the sapphire family, Riddle’s also has Montana sapphires which are gorgeous! If you want to do a little research of your own, Sarah suggested looking up a documentary on the Discovery Channel where Riddle’s Jewelry is featured in tandem with YOGO Sapphire mining. SPOTLIGHT | JAVA MOON
Megan and Ron Cook took ownership of Java Moon in December of 2021. If you have been to the coffee shop, or are a frequent patron of Java Moon, chances are you have seen Megan behind the counter making coffee, preparing food, washing dishes, restocking items, and cleaning tables. Megan isn’t one to ask her employees to do tasks she wouldn’t do herself and her dedication to the business is reflected in the positive reviews and beaming feedback from patrons in the coffee shop. Megan is a believer in community and connection, which is the main focus of Java Moon, she wants the coffee shop to be a place for people to gather and connect. Megan said some people come in twice a day just to chat and to see her and the baristas and to hang out. Java Moon not only has great coffee – which Megan speaks highly of, but they also make everything in-house. “We make everything from scratch, crack every egg, and measure every ingredient. There is nothing we don’t make in-house. All the bakery items are handmade and we just upgraded to quality meats from Boar’s Head so the Turkey is now organic!” Megan stated. The most popular food menu item is The Classic sandwich made with sun dried tomato turkey, provolone, bacon, avocado, and a garlic spread.
