SPOTLIGHT | RED SHED REDOS PICKET FENCE
After moving to Main Street, what started as a backyard market has only gotten bigger in spirit and inventory. Owners, Terri and Nick Walton partnered with long-time friend Sonni Williams, store manager of Red Shed Redos Picket Fence, to start Behind The Picket Fence "Vintage & Handmade Marketplace" years ago. Behind the Picket Fence started in the Walton’s backyard (where you can find the Red Shed that comes into play in the current name) and soon bloomed beyond backyard capacity. The trio moved the markets to the Sheridan County Fairgrounds and they have only grown bigger since! Behind the Picket Fence Marketplace is a semi-annual market that hosts many local vendors selling crafts and vintage items. Terri and Sonni run the downtown store with the help of several select vendors who work at the shop. You can visit Red Shed Redos Picket Fence in downtown Sheridan. With 30+ vendors showcasing their work in the store you can always find something that makes you smile. From handmade candy and jewelry to fine art prints, original paintings, quilts, wreaths, and metalwork. Terri wanted to remind people, "When you support a local artist or crafter, you are keeping it hometown and local. The local spending goes into the family and to support the continuation of art in the community.” The store also hosts junior vendors to sell their goods at Red Shed Redos! Terri wants to encourage kids to cultivate their creativity at a young age. Because of the variety of artists and [...]

SPOTLIGHT | RED BISON STUDIO
Stephen Mullins opened Red Bison Studio in downtown Sheridan in 2018, offering his pint cups, artisan mugs, and gorgeous tableware and crockery. The pottery studio in the back of the business is where the magic happens and adds the ‘Studio’ to Red Bison. A fun fact is that Stephen didn’t start his business by opening up a storefront; he got started by selling his pottery at 3rd Thursday Street Festivals in the summer and working as a full-time teacher. Now you can find his work downtown along with the offering of pottery classes ranging from wheel throwing basics to individual topics like creating specific bowls and mugs. Stephen has a unique style to his pottery and has adapted a few innovative finishing techniques which set him apart from a more traditional clay artist. He’s used silk screen monoprint transfers, which he described as a more artistic process. Stephen also works with monoprint transfers that consist of hand-drawn designs applied with a clay slip. In a similar process, Stephen also works with waterslide decal application – ask him about the difference, it’s a cool process! Whether Stephen is throwing clay on the wheel, or creating custom designs, it seems like the guy is always in motion. He creates custom work for clients as well as the pieces in his store. Stephen said, “Everything is handmade and created individually and every piece is unique with a wide range of designs with multiple different processes and finishes.” In addition, everything is created in [...]
SPOTLIGHT | ROOSTER’S GIFT SHOP
Roosters Market Place first opened on the boardwalk by Albertsons in early 2000 and relocated to Sheridan Avenue in 2015. It was in 2020 when the owner, Niki Warnke, opened Roosters Gift Shop in downtown Sheridan. Niki said that she felt a calling to be where she is now and ended up in the space for all the right reasons. After the location downtown was chosen, the family who owns the building was involved with the remodel and showed up along with Niki’s friends and family; even customers came to help make the new space a home for Roosters. Nikki grew up in Sheridan and she shows her love and welcoming nature for the community by always offering refreshments to patrons and visitors of the store. Niki said “Refreshments and hospitality are huge to us. Names are important and we work hard to learn people, their names, and stories.” In Niki’s words, “Roosters is a ministry, not just a gift store. People come into Roosters who are hurting, they come in because they need to be here. As a compassionate human, Niki knows she needs to set stuff aside and work with people who need her most. She stated, “People come to Roosters if they are seeking alignment in faith and some local guidance, a place to celebrate life’s challenges and joys.” Another great fact about Roosters Gift Shop is that they are a huge part of the Sheridan Foster Parent Exchange organization and Niki offers two items that are [...]
