SPOTLIGHT | COTTONWOOD KITCHEN + HOME
Jessica and Jeff Garrelts purchased Cottonwood Kitchen + Home in 2011 and haven’t looked back. In 2018 they began renovating the old J.C. Penney location and moved into their fresh new Cottonwood Kitchen + Home space soon after. Jessica continues to grow the business in exciting new ways by offering cooking classes and pop-up lunches. After acquiring Annie Greenthumb's in 2022 you can now find a full-service floral department located in the store, fitting named Cottonwood Floral. Jessica mentioned that the floral department focuses on modern and beautiful arrangements for weddings, events, holidays, and everyday occasions. Cottonwood Kitchen + Home hosts a wedding registry, and the new floral department compliments their wedding-related offerings. Speaking to the cooking classes and pop-up lunches, Jessica encourages people to get their seats early! If you’re not familiar with pop-up lunches, you should definitely try to make it to one! The reason Jessica wanted to start hosting them at Cottonwood Kitchen + Home was to connect the community in the kitchen. As a lunch patron, you get your own individual servings from the featured menu to enjoy as a community at one of the large tables provided. Jessica is a connector and a people person, you can see that not only in the pop-up lunch concept, but also in the hiring she does for the store. She makes sure she hires the right people to fit the role. You can feel that when you enter the store from the happy greetings and willingness to assist [...]
SPOTLIGHT | FLY SHOP OF THE BIGHORNS
Clark Smyth took over Rock Creek Angler in the early 2000s and following the success of the business, Clark joined forces with Cole Burnham to become co-owners of the Fly Shop of the Bighorns and Angling Destination. The two ambitious individuals now cohesively run the three businesses and Clark noted that each of the separate entities has nearly 30 years of established success and is now maintained under the same roof. Each of the businesses was founded in Wyoming and between them cater to all levels of fishing expertise by offering bait, fishing lessons, gear outfitting, guide services, and fishing lodge packages all over the globe. Clark stated that people come to the Fly Shop and the Angling businesses to book day trips from May through October while he and Cole continue to book and run global destination fishing trips. People come to the Fly Shop of the Bighorns for expertise and knowledge. Clark also noted that they are proud to be able to offer high-end flyfishing and tackle options for customers, something not always easy to find. When complimented on the customer service from the employees in the Fly Shop, Clark humbly stated, “Thank you. We hire fun people. Fishing is supposed to be fun and we try to carry that over to the rest of the business, an example is the employees.” He added that every person that comes into the Fly Shop has a personal experience, finding the proper gear and information is important to success. That [...]
SPOTLIGHT | 45TH PARALLEL
45th Parallel has been a downtown Sheridan staple for decades. In 2008 Joe and Angel Dahlke took over ownership of the beautifully eclectic establishment. The welcoming greetings from them as you walk in, combined with the mild scent of incense in the air invite shoppers to come in and take a look. When speaking to Joe, he said that people come in the most for jewelry and clothing. The amount of bright patterned fabrics and beautifully curated jewelry speaks to the care and love they put into choosing the right pieces for the store. Joe informed that “When choosing jewelry, we look for all sterling silver and unique items.” He also said that they work directly with representatives of Native American tribes to choose the right variety of pieces for the store and there are some stunning pieces available right now. Joe was asked what sets 45th Parallel apart from other local retail stores, he replied that “You can find different styles and items than you might typically find in Western stores. We try to have a fun and colorful store.” When it comes to clothing and specialty items, Joe said that he and Angel like to have variety throughout the store. Mission accomplished for sure! You can’t turn in any direction without seeing something bright and interesting to look at. After looking through the jewelry case, Joe pointed out that the store now carries the Laura J. Designs line of jewelry (pictured). He said, “It’s the most high-end line [...]
