SPOTLIGHT | PUZZLE’S GAME & HOBBY

August 3rd, 2023|

Halen McMahan opened Puzzle's Game & Hobby in 2018. The storefront is connected to Brian's Boot & Shoe Company and has its own entrance. Although Puzzle’s is a smaller retail space, Halen has a lot of inventory for the gaming customer. He is extremely knowledgeable about games from puzzles to more complicated miniature wargames like Warhammer. Halen sells board games, tabletop games, and mini-war games, role-play games, and puzzles. When asked what sets him apart from a traditional hobby store, Halen stated that “I sell more interesting and fun board games that are not your traditional Monopoly style.” Think Risk and beyond. Halen picked up a box and said, “If you want a game to bust out on a whim, I suggest Costume Party Detective. It’s fun and always different!” In chatting with Halen he mentioned that he loves chatting and nerding out with people! He said, “Stop in and let’s talk shop about D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) and Warhammer!” Halen is happy to assist in finding your next new hobby obsession! Halen also works next door at Brian’s Boots & Shoe Co., when he’s not assisting customers with their footwear needs, he is at Puzzle’s Game and Hobby. That means he’s pretty much always at the store on one side or the other and ready to help with anything you need. As a reminder, customers can access Puzzle’s via sidewalks during construction, or through Brian’s Boots back-alley entrance, just look for the sign on the door of the boot store. SPOTLIGHT | THE SPORT STOP

August 3rd, 2023|

Founded in 1977, The Sport Stop started off small with a limited amount of sporting goods and footwear. Eventually, the store was able to expand into more categories and break into the outdoor market. Karen Powers bought out her partner and brought in her daughter, Michelle Maneval, as her partner and General Manager. The Sport Stop, LTD now occupies several storefronts in Historic Downtown Sheridan. At The Sport Stop, the staff members believe in the products they stock and in their knowledge about them. Manager, Roger Martinez, enjoys talking with people about the outdoors and the brands they carry. Roger walked around the store and showcased all of the products and styles The Sport Stop currently has in stock. He said the best part about their store is that there are prices to fit any budget! He held up a button-up shirt for around $30, then next to it a similar style for $70. It shows that the purchasing at the store is intentional for downtown. When speaking to Roger, one of the products he pointed out that he was most passionate about is the new Parakito brand mosquito repellant. Parakito is deet-free and comes as a roll-on applicator or a bracelet. This product comes at a stellar time because of the mass influx of mosquitos this year! Yay for rain, not so yay for the little insect monsters spoiling the outdoor experience. Speaking of outdoor experience, if you are planning your next adventure or want to know what your [...]

SPOTLIGHT | THE OLD GENERAL STORE ANTIQUES

August 1st, 2023|

You're immediately taken back in time upon entering The Old General Store Antiques. The music on the antique record player softly pours out tunes from days gone by and the eclectic items around the store give a sense of awe and intrigue. From the porcelain Siamese cats on the front counter to the old Western posters and postcards, jewelry, clothing, lamps, and furniture - it’s an incredible antique collection to take in and enjoy. Owner and Sheridan native, Luke Knudson who is in his early 20s, has been running the storefront in downtown Sheridan since his early teens. An interesting story to share that seems fitting for an antique store! Lesia Hahn, one of Luke’s employees, shared that his forte is chandeliers. There was a good amount of them around the store and they’re gorgeous! When Lesia was asked why people should stop into The Old General Store Antiques, she said, “The chandeliers and the eclectic antiques!” Lesia has been working at the store since April and she loves being there because she learns about the antiques from customers. She said one of the fun things about the patrons that come into the store is that they usually know what they want before they come in and they love to share their knowledge with her about the items. The local Sheridan crowd comes in often to see what’s new too. Lesia said that “Luke goes on trips and brings back amazing stuff for the store from all over the U.S. [...]
