In honor of Historic Preservation Month and the Downtown Design Award, we want to highlight a previous Downtown Design Award winner, First Congregational United Church of Christ.
We are excited to announce that the Sheridan County Historic Preservation Commission and the Downtown Sheridan Association recently received a grant from the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office to complete the National Register Nomination form for the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Sheridan.
Downtown Sheridan Association, the Alliance of Historic Wyoming, and the Sheridan County Historic Preservation Commission are joining forces to nominate the property for the National Register of Historical Places.
Listing the First Congregational United Church of Christ on the National Register of Historic Places will bring attention to its historic and architectural significance and the work the congregation has done to preserve the building. Additionally, having the property on the National Register will enhance the awareness of historic downtown Sheridan and Sheridan County.
This project will hopefully also encourage other building owners to have their building/property listed in the National Register of Historic Places as well. There are currently 13 Sheridan properties on the registry of historic places including the Sheridan Inn, Holy Name Catholic School, Sheridan County Courthouse, and others.
Each week in May we will be highlighting one of the 2022 Downtown Design Award nominees. We are still accepting nominations!
