The Downtown Sheridan area serves as the heartbeat of the community where people come together to enjoy the convenience and friendliness of hometown businesses, local services, specialty and convenience shopping, and unique recreational and cultural activities. Our downtown is the pride of our community providing both financial and intrinsic value, a popular destination for visitors as well as new businesses and residents while preserving our historical assets.
SPOTLIGHT | THE CLOTHING CO. & BABY TOO
If you have been shopping in Downtown Sheridan in the last 30+ years you have definitely been to Shannon and Steve Kuzara’s establishment. The Clothing Co. & Baby Too is known for trendy clothing with local flare. Shannon curates the brands they carry with great attention to detail, stocking everything from graphic tees, jeans, and baby clothes to the accessories they offer like locally-made travel mugs and jewelry. As Shannon walked around the store showing her favorite pieces, she pointed out the large selection of denim at the Clothing Co., everything from bootcut and straight leg to jegging trendy flare styles. Along with the assorted denim, Shannon wanted to showcase the $5 reader glasses selection in stock – the number of frames is impressively fun! She also pointed out the purses and creatively crafted canvas bags they carry, “I get one of each style so there’s no two alike being purchased. The canvas bags are all one of a kind for us.” She spoke. Shannon also showed the case full of Wyoming tumblers she ordered from a local vendor, they are each exclusively made for the Clothing Co. & Baby Too, “I chose the designs!” She exclaimed. Shannon walked back to the baby section and showed the Wyoming brown and gold baby and toddler clothing items on display. SPOTLIGHT | URBAN THRIFT
The Green Boomerang opened on Coffeen Avenue in 2011. In 2017 the thrift store relocated to Downtown Sheridan in 2017 and moved into the old Dan’s Western Wear location and the Green Boomerang rebranded as Urban Thrift Sheridan. The best part of Urban Thrift is that all proceeds from the thrift store go directly to The Hub on Smith, a Center for All Generations. By shopping at Urban Thrift, you help serve the older adults in our community! Erin Kranz, the manager at Urban Thrift, said, “We have been blessed by the community of Sheridan, we have the nicest donations from houseware to furniture to clothes and shoes, it’s all really nice stuff.” Erin stated that the community is very generous. When Erin and Meredith Sopko, Director of Development at The Hub on Smith, were asked what their favorite part of Urban Thrift is, they both agreed that the people and the mission are most important to what they do. They stated that they are here to help the community and there is a plethora of opportunities and adventure through The Hub on Smith and their services. Erin stated that “Urban Thrift is the first phase for visitors to get in the know about the Hub and the businesses they help serve. Once they get in the store, we have a lot of opportunity to talk to them about what we’re all about”. Another awesome aspect to Urban Thrift is that they have a lot of volunteers in the store. [...]
SPOTLIGHT | BRIAN’S BOOT & SHOE COMPANY
Brian’s Boot & Shoe Co. has been in Sheridan since 1978, owned and operated by Brian McMahan. Brian has been doing boot and shoe repairs for 40+ years and the repair business is big at the store! Lauren McMahan, Brian’s daughter working alongside him at the store, stated that “people come from all over to get their boots resoled and re-heeled. It’s an industry that barely exists anymore”. Brian’s repair area is in the back of the store and is always busy. Also, a valuable asset to Brian’s Boot & Shoe Co. is Halen McMahan, Brian’s son. Halen and Lauren work full time at the store helping their customers find boots and shoes that work best for them. When talking with the two it was apparent how much they care for their store and the patrons who trust them with their beloved footwear. When asked what her favorite shoe brand is, Lauren quickly answered, “Dansko. Hands down. They are comfortable! We specialize in supportive footwear here and Danskos are some of the best”. Halen added that “People come into the store desperate for comfort and support. We care a lot about our customers and getting them the right shoe and fit for them, including inserts, is a priority. We make sure to help find the best choice for the customers and we really are experts in the field.” Both Halen and Lauren mentioned how much they love their customers and how loyal they are to Brian’s Boot & Shoe Co.
